A 24-year-old MBA student named Piyush Dhamnotiya has admitted to have brutally strangled his girlfriend, choking her until she lost consciousness and then stabbing her with a knife.
The gruesome murder was revealed on 13 February 2026, when residents of a building at Dwarkapuri area sent the police after the cops to a foul stench coming from a locked flat in “Uncle Gali”. When the cops broke the door open, they found the semi-decomposed naked body of a 24-year-old female lying on a bed.
The girl was a 1st Year MBA candidate whose father had lodged a missing complaint against her on 11th February. The police, after investigation, found out that the flat was the one that was linked with her classmate and boyfriend, Piyush Dhamnodiya (also identified in reports as Dhanotia), who went missing right after the woman was last seen.
Police Investigation
According to the police, after the questioning, they say that the incident happened on February 10. To work out their differences, Piyush and the victim met at his rented accommodation, says a statement from the police.
It is said that Piyush believed the victim was cheating by talking to other men, through dating apps and mobile games. A heated argument over marriage and her ‘independence’ got out of control. Police claims that the man strangled the woman after having bound her hands and feet and put a cloth in her mouth to silence her. Then, in order to be sure that she was dead, he stabbed the knife into her chest with such violence that the blade broke.
The Chilling Aftermath
Investigators have described this as “extreme brutality” and is what followed the killing.
“The accused’s behavior after the crime remained erratic. He allegedly bought beer, returned to the room, and consumed alcohol beside the body before sexually assaulting the corpse,” stated DCP Krishna Lalchandani.
Before leaving the city, according to Piyush, he used the victim’s phone to share private videos on a college WhatsApp group and uploaded them on her status, a step that investigators believe was deliberately taken to kill the victims character and at the same time deflect suspicion.
After that, he escaped to Maharashtra and his behavior became more and more weird. According to reports, while he was in hiding in the Panvel area near Navi Mumbai, he performed occult rituals (tantric practices) using incense sticks and vermillion. Later, he said that he was “mentally disturbed” and trying to “summon the spirit” of the victim in order to apologize.
Arrest of the Accused & Allegations
Eventually, Piyush was found by the Indore police in Andheri, Mumbai, and arrested there on February 14, 2026. The accused showed a very cold demeanor as the media were present and while the crime scene was being reconstructed.
When questioned by reporters about why he committed the crime, he was seen smirking and shrugging, stating in Hindi:
“Kuch nahi hua hai, chhodo… ho gaya jo ho gaya yaar. Kya karoge jaan ke?” (Nothing happened, leave it… what’s done is done. What will you do by knowing?)
The father of the victim has accused the girl of being blackmailed and extorted for months by Piyush. He further stated that the accused was threatening the victim with immoral photos in order to coerce her into paying his college fees, whereas the physical torture was only the end of long-term mental harassment.
Current Status
Piyush Dhamnodiya is currently in police custody. Authorities are examining digital evidence, including call records and the recovered mobile phone, while awaiting the final post-mortem report to confirm the exact nature of the injuries and the allegations of necrophilia.
