U.S. Bases in Bahrain and Kuwait Attacked; Iran Claims USS Lincoln Strike as 4.3 Quake Hits Fars

The Middle East is currently teetering on the edge of a full-scale regional war as the military confrontation between Iran and a U.S.-Israeli coalition reaches a fever pitch. After a major combined offensive called “Operation Epic Fury”, Iran has responded with a series of attacks over the Persian Gulf, focusing on American military bases and naval units.

Iran Strikes Back: U.S. Bases in Bahrain & Kuwait Under Fire

After several days of continuous air strikes against Iran by U.S. and Israeli forces, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded with a well-planned drone and missile attack on American strategic centres in the Gulf area.

    • Bahrain: Satellite photos and witness accounts confirm that the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet Headquarters in Manama was one of the targets. There were numerous attacks reported on the naval base, and videos showed a black thick smoke coming from the Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) buildings.
    • Kuwait: Iranian propaganda outlets reported that the Camp Arifjan and Ali al-Salem Air Base were hit by a number of “Shahed-style” suicide drones. Even though U.S. and Kuwaiti air defense systems were able to intercept a large number of projectiles, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait has officially declared the cessation of activities until further notice.

President Donald Trump issued a stern warning from Washington and stated that any further escalation will be met “with a force that has never been seen before”. He called the present military campaign a “last best chance” to ruin Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities.

    USS Abraham Lincoln was Hit?

One major point of disagreement has been the status of the USS Abraham Lincoln. On Sunday, March 1, the IRGC announced that it had attacked a Nimitz,-class aircraft carrier with four ballistic missiles declaring that the “land and sea will become a graveyard for the aggressors”.

However U.S. Central Command swiftly rejected these allegations to be a “lie”. In a public statement, CENTCOM said:

“The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn’t even come close. The carrier continues to launch aircraft in support of our relentless campaign to eliminate threats from the Iranian regime.”

Despite the denial, the statement has been instrumental in Iran’s propaganda sphere to keep domestic morale up after the reported deaths of high-ranking officials.

    Earthquake Strikes Gerash Amidst Conflict

On top of the upheaval in the region, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Gerash in Iran’s southern Fars province on Tuesday, March 3, 2026

It was a shallow earthquake as the reports from both Al Jazeera and the USGS stated it took place at a depth of around 10 km. The seismic event occurred while the region was being subjected to intensified airstrikes. Even though the earthquake added natural instability to the environment, no casualties and significant damages attributable to the earthquake have been reported so far.

    Context: “Operation Epic Fury”

The present situation escalated in the end of February 2026 when the U.S. and Israel launched a pre-emptive strike campaign. From what has been gathered, these strikes have almost completely wiped out Iran’s leadership, including the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

    Current Toll and Impact
    MetricDetails
Casualties in IranOver 780 killed (Iranian Red Crescent)
U.S. Casualties6 confirmed deaths; several wounded
Economic ImpactStrait of Hormuz closure; global oil price surge
EvacuationsNon-essential U.S. personnel evacuated from Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, and Jordan

It is estimated that the U.S. military campaign will last another four to five weeks while the global community continues to be at high alert. The airspace has been shut down and the Strait of Hormuz has become a battlefield. Therefore, the humanitarian and economic consequences of this 2026 conflict are still to be fully seen.
