A video viral on social media of a female HDFC Bank employee and a customer. In a viral video, an HDFC employee is seen flaunting her caste identity and abusing a customer. After the video went viral, people started questioning whether caste pride has also entered banking and professional spaces. The incident took place at the HDFC Bank branch in the Panki area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

In the clip circulated across platforms such as Instagram and X, the employee identified as Aastha Singh, is seen arguing heatedly with a male customer over an unresolved issue at the branch. During the heated conversation between HDFC employee and a customer, she can be heard using abusive language and making a remark that invoked her caste identity, saying, “I am a Thakur, don’t B*kchodi (mess) with me.” People started calling this posture was inappropriate both as customer service and as professional behaviour.

According to her Video, her colleagues had resigned and had wanted to be relieved on the same day.”Her sister-in-law had been sitting in the branch since morning, and I had a minor argument with her. Later, the sister-in-law informed her brother (the colleague’s husband) about the argument,”

She also alleged that her colleague’s husband showed up at the branch after working hours. “He stormed into the bank at 4:30 pm and misbehaved with me. He directly asked me which caste I belong to (kaunsi jaati ke ho) and said I have a lot of arrogance,”

She said ‘I am a Thakur and proud of it’

She said that he further came to her desk and threatened to ‘teach her a lesson’. According to Singh, he said, “Mai tumhari hekdi nikal dunga. Mai tumhari saari garmi nikal dunga.” Singh said that she lashed out after he misbehaved with her.” Yes, my words were wrong. I am aware that I am in public service, and I should measure my words carefully.

But if someone threatens to teach me a lesson, then I will not tolerate it,” Singh stated firmly.I continue to stand by my statement that “I am a Thakur” and I am completely proud of this fact.
