Today, content producers, influencers, pod-casters, and streamers earn money via collaboration with brands, advertising, sponsorship, and crowd funding. Most youngsters today learn skills such as video editing, social media management, graphic designing, programming, and digital marketing via online videos and courses instead of traditional education.

The availability of smartphones and affordable internet in India has also been instrumental. The Government of India has also come forward to support the growth of small scale creators. The Finance Minister specifically highlighted the “Orange Economy” in the budget 2026-27 and also allocated ₹250 crore specifically to support talent development in this sector .
The flourishing start-up culture in India has also motivated the students to think differently from conventional employment opportunities. There is a huge number of young people who aspire to become entrepreneurs. Like the success stories of startups Zerodha, Boat, and PhysicsWallah have shown students that stable government jobs are no longer the only path to success.
Role of Education and Career Counselling
Institutes of learning are gradually embracing these changes through the incorporation of skill-based learning, internships, and career counselling services. Institutions have started to realize that students have different strengths and interests.
Career counselling has taken an increasing amount of importance due to the need for proper career guidance to students. According to many professionals, the education system in India should concentrate more on encouraging creativity and innovation rather than being centred around examinations.
This can be achieved through the encouragement of internships, workshops, extra-curricular activities, and industrial visits among others.
But in order to be really effective, there needs to be more support, awareness, and acceptance from society and education systems. By receiving proper guidance and training, the youth of India can carve out new career routes that will not only benefit themselves but also aid in the growth of the nation’s economy and creativity.
