A group of men playing cricket at a park in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, paused their game to step in and protect a woman who came to them visibly frightened, saying she was being followed by a man she described as “creepy.” A video of the incident has since gone viral online, drawing widespread praise for the players’ calm and decisive response.

The incident took place near a housing complex and a school, where the men had set up a portable cricket pitch — a common sight in Canadian cities with large South Asian communities. By most accounts, it was a routine afternoon of recreational cricket until the woman approached them in distress.

According to those familiar with the video, the men stopped their game and formed a circle around the man the woman pointed out. They did not get physical or aggressive. Instead, they told him clearly that he had been photographed, and that they were prepared to contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. That was enough. The man left the area without any confrontation or violence.

The woman, visibly shaken when she first approached the players, was kept close by the group throughout the brief standoff.

Locals who saw the video quickly identified the location. Several people in the comments recognized one of the players — a man named Karan — as someone known in the area’s Punjabi and Sikh community, which has a significant presence in Prince George.

What made the clip resonate so widely was its ordinariness, in the best possible sense. These were not off-duty security personnel or trained responders. They were men spending a Sunday afternoon playing cricket on a portable pitch in a park. They had no obligation to do anything. They chose to anyway.

The video spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing tens of thousands of views and comments from people in Canada, India, and beyond. Many viewers pointed out that the men handled the situation exactly right — no escalation, no machismo, no unnecessary drama. Just a clear, unified message that the woman was not alone and that the man’s behaviour had been noticed and documented.

“This is how it’s supposed to work,” one commenter wrote. “Strangers looking out for strangers.”

The incident also sparked a broader conversation online about bystander culture and what it actually looks like when a community shows up for someone in a moment of fear. The men did not wait to be certain something criminal had occurred. They responded to a woman who was scared, and they made her feel safe. That, many argued, is the whole point.

Prince George has a growing South Asian population, and cricket on portable pitches in public parks has become an increasingly familiar part of life in several Canadian cities, particularly in British Columbia. For many in the diaspora community, the video carried a particular kind of pride — not because of where these men were from, but because of what they did.

No formal complaint was filed, and there is no confirmation of any police involvement following the incident. The man who was confronted left voluntarily.

The woman was safe. The game, presumably, resumed.
